The many Faces of Irish Hillclimb & Sprint

The many Faces of Irish Hillclimb & Sprint project will be ongoing and every-now-and-then it will be updated. If you are missing fear not, I have ordered a new Botox plug-in and when its installed we’ll be good to go…Look, its for your own good, besides I can’t put caps on everyone, can I?

The many Faces of Irish Hillclimb & Sprint

Cento Challenge 2017.

Class 1B Champion Gary Egan.

What I love most about Hillclimbing is there a class for practically everything and everyone. Pictured above is the 2016 Irish Hillclimb & Sprint Cento challenge champion Gary Egan in his Fiat Cento or “Chinky” as they are affectionately called by their drivers.

The Fiat Cinquecento class or “Class 1B by Simon McKinley” to give it it’s proper title was the inspiration of Simon McKinley and proves its not all about having the fastest car out there, in fact one of the best and most entertaining classes of 2016 was the Italian mob;  the fiat Cinquecento’s. Now here’s a class that provided some of the most wonderful and endless entertainment all year long.

Its a class that offers a very cost effective way of entering the world of Motorsport, and it really is fun to take a small car like this by the scruff-of-the-neck and throw it around a hill or race track.

Senan O’Connor

Watch out for the fiat Cinquecento’s this year as they really are the entertainers of the championship and why not stop by the paddock and say hello to the drivers they are always delighted to offer help and advice. And there’s always the chance there might be a Chinky for sale and you too can be going up hill faster, well…as fast as a Chinky can go in 2017 and who knows perhaps the 2017 champion could be you!

Irish Hillclimb & Sprint 2017

jansplashAt the time of posting this there are 106 days until Saturday April 22nd which is the first round of the 2017 Naylor Engineering Irish Hillclimb & Sprint Championship. The first two rounds of this very exciting championship will kick-off in the spectacular Burren in Co Clare. The event is based in Ballyvaughan Village and is jointly run by the Clare and Galway Motor clubs and it features the iconic Corkscrew Hill that’s traditionally run on the Saturday and the newer Hill near Ballinalacken is run on Sunday.

So put a note in your diary for April 22-23 and don’t miss out on one of Irelands most spectacular motorsport championships. We’ll have more news on the event later…

There is a non-championship sprint in  Kirkistown on Saturday 18th March and many of the regular competitors use the event as a pre season shake-down to blow-off the winter cobwebs.

Click here to look back on last year’s championship.

There is a competitors forum being held on Sunday 19th February, in the Maldron Hotel Portlaoise at 3pm. Irish Hillclimb.com will have more news on the event as the date draws near.

Pre-Season Scrutiny.

There will also be Pre-Season Scrutiny Events in 2017, and if you are taking part in the championship it’s worth getting your car checked out by the MI Scrutineers. The two locations are as follows.

DSC_4957Pre-Season Scrutiny In the West of Ireland

Saturday 11th March Venue: Frank Brynes Autobody Repairs, Oranmore, Co. Galway.

Pre-Season Scrutiny in the East of Ireland.

Sunday 12th March Venue: John Linnane Motors Rathnew, Co. Wicklow.

Keep an eye on Irish Hillclimb.com for more information on the events.
