Big Heart Fight Night

The charity event of the year in Galway has to the Big Heart Fight Night in the Radisson hotel last night; there was nothing charitable about the action in the Ring, amateur fighters pasted the Tar out of each other over three one-and-half minute rounds. The event was filled to capacity, and enthusiastic supporters urged on their fighter, with the pugilists giving their all, blood included, for this charity event.

It makes a change from shooting Motorsport, but not really our cup of tea, some of action from the night is in the Gallery, well done to all who took part…I hope the lumps and bumps are not too bad.

Carlow Mondello Sprint

Sundays Carlow Mondello Sprint  was the first real test for some of the Hillclimb crews of 2012, Sylvie Mullins in his Gould GR37 took the victory with Simon McKinley in second, Simon’s escort developed problems on the warm up lap, and he shared the Nolan car for the event. Peter Dwyer in Dallara F399 finished third.

Sylvie delivered what can only be described as a text book example of racing in his Gould, that sound, that glorious sound from the Judd as he flew down the Mondello straight, his speed well in excess of 150MPH by the time he reached the end of the straight, the Gould simply exploded out of the corners, accelerating away in the distance at incredible speed.

Despite the best efforts of Simon McKinley in the Nolan car, he could not match the pace of the Gould, Peter Dwyer who finished third in the Dallara was another fast clinically neat driver, well acquainted  with the Mondello Park. And Peter was followed home in fourth by Michael Roche in his Dallara 397.

Class winners included Rory Stephens in his gorgeous looking Radical, my god that Radical is fast!! and sounds incredible on the Mondello Straight, Joe Courtney in his OMS was fifth, Dermot Nolan in his Reynard P873 was sixth, Rory Stephens finished seventh overall. And Adrian McCallion in his Normandale was eighth, with Jedi master John Byrne in his Jedi finishing ninth.

A wonderful days racing, the pictures are in the Gallery…Results  Motor Sport Ireland
